Platinum Vs Gold

Every customer I have spoken with asked me at least one question about gold and platinum. So now I will put my knowledge on a page and summarize it for you, the reader. Gold is the most famous metal on the planet, thousands of years back, and it is the same as today. Gold is still the most desirable metal on the planet.

So, What Is The Difference Between Gold And Platinum?

Well, both metals are used in the electronic industry, but today let’s talk about the value in the jewelry market, on today prices gold & platinum are very close on price per Oz; also, platinum was more expensive for most of past years, platinum will cost almost double if you order let say a ring with certain design & same style.

Now You Will Ask Why?

Well, the weight of platinum per square inch is double that of gold, and gold is one of the heaviest metals on the planet, for example; if gold and platinum cost $1700 an Oz and a certain style will have 10 grams of weight in gold, platinum for the same style will require 20 grams of platinum, it means that for the same space you will use double the weight, take in account that platinum is sold pure (90%-95% pure) compare to most of the gold jewelry that will be sold as 10k, 14k, or 18k (in rare cases you can find jewelry in 22k or 24k).

One of the most important questions that people asked me was: what metal is stronger? Well, the answer is that both are relatively soft metals, but platinum is a little stronger. Although both metals are very rare and precious, gold will not get any corrosion as platinum will get patina, making the metal not shiny (some customers ask for).

Gold is mined only as yellow gold, and white gold gets the color from a mixture of alloys like nickel, giving it the white color. So white gold in low karats like 10k will usually get back a little yellow after 3- 4 years.

As For The Beauty Of It Or What Is Better To Buy, Gold Or Platinum?

This is a particular question, and I always say to customers: go with your feeling of what you like and the budget that will work for y. So, for example, most people could not distinguish between white gold and platinum, and if you love yellow gold ….just go with it.
